Dual Language Immersion Program Information
OVERVIEW
The Atwater Elementary School District launched its Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program at Juniper Elementary School in August of 2023, kicking off with its first cohort of kindergarten students. Each year, the program will grow as the original cohort advances through each grade.
PROGRAM GOALS
- Bilingualism: Students learn second language without compromising their first language.
- Biliteracy: Students learn to read, write, and speak proficiently in English and Spanish.
- Multicultural Comptence: Students develop an appreciation for different cultures.
LANGUAGE ALLOCATION
Juniper Elementary School follows and 80/20 DLI model. This model emphsizes the use of Spanish in the early grades in order to provide a solid fountation for future academics.
